EEG microstates: Functional significance and short-term test-retest reliability

چکیده
EEG microstates, reflecting discrete topographical organization of the signal power, may have clinical relevance; however, their functional significance and test-retest reliability remain unclear. To investigate canonical microstate classes pairwise transitions, to establish within-session reliability, we recorded 36-channel EEGs in 20 healthy volunteers during three eyes-closed conditions: mind-wandering, verbalization (silently repeating word ‘square’ every 2 s), visualization (visualizing a square s). Each condition lasted 3 min sequence conditions was repeated four times (two runs two repetitions). The participants' alertness sense effort experiment were rated using visual-analogue scales. data 2–20 Hz bandpass-filtered analysed into classes: A, B, C, D. C D persistently more dominant than A B all conditions. Of first-order parameters, average duration most reliable. class longer mind-wandering (106.8 ms) (102.2 or (99.8 ms), with concomitantly higher coverage (36.4% vs. 34.7% 35.2%), but otherwise there no clear association particular mental states. at beginning each run, together alpha power subjective ratings alertness. Only transitions between (from particular) significantly what would be expected from respective microstates' occurrences. transition probabilities, did not distinguish conditions, overall lower that parameters such as coverage. Further studies are needed classes. This might fruitfully achieved by looking complex syntax beyond transitions. ensure greater study designs should allow for shorter experimental regular breaks, particularly when microstates biomarkers.

Morpho-Functional 1H-MRI of the Lung in COPD: Short-Term Test-Retest Reliability
PURPOSE Non-invasive end-points for interventional trials and tailored treatment regimes in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for monitoring regionally different manifestations of lung disease instead of global assessment of lung function with spirometry would be valuable. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (1H-MRI) allows for a radiation-free assessment of regional structure ...
متن کاملRegional electroencephalogram (EEG) alpha power and asymmetry in older adults: a study of short-term test–retest reliability
Although regional alpha power and asymmetry measures have been widely used as indices of individual differences in emotional processing and affective style in younger populations, there have been relatively few studies that have examined these measures in older adults. Here, we examined the short-term test-retest reliability of resting regional alpha power (7.5-12.5 Hz) and asymmetry in a sampl...
متن کاملTest-retest reliability of a single-channel, wireless EEG system.
Recording systems to acquire electroencephalogram (EEG) data are traditionally lab-based. However, there are shortcomings to this method, and the ease of use and portability of emerging wireless EEG technologies offer a promising alternative. A previous validity study demonstrated data derived from a single-channel, wireless system (NeuroSky ThinkGear, San Jose, California) is comparable to EEG...
متن کاملTest-retest reliability estimation of functional MRI data.
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data are commonly used to construct activation maps for the human brain. It is important to quantify the reliability of such maps. We have developed statistical models to provide precise estimates for reliability from several runs of the same paradigm over time. Specifically, our method extends the premise of maximum likelihood (ML) developed by Geno...
متن کاملLonger term test-retest reliability of error-related brain activity.
The error-related negativity (ERN) is a negative deflection in the event-related potential (ERP) following an erroneous response and is thought to reflect activity of the anterior cingulate cortex. There is accumulating evidence that the component has trait-like properties; prior evidence further suggests test-retest reliability estimates ranging from .40 to .82 over a period of 2 to 6 weeks. T...
